IACC ASIA PACIFIC • STUDY TOUR 2027
From Efficiency to Experience
Three days in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges – two estates, three fires, and a question the industry hasn’t answered yet.
From Efficiency to Experience
The time technology gives back – and the hospitality we spend it on.
The industry conversation about efficiency has become a conversation about cost. Understandably – payroll, produce and power have all risen. But value is still value, and a conference that doesn’t achieve what it was convened to achieve is expensive at any price. Efficiency isn’t the outcome. Experience is. Technology’s real value is the time it hands back, and the question that matters most is what we choose to spend it on.
That puts us at a fork: take the time as relief against rising costs, or reinvest it in the experience, the original and true differentiator. The ratio each venue chooses is what will separate them over the next five years, because where experience isn’t invested in, everyone delivers much the same thing, and the referrals and the repeat business quietly go with it. Spend it on the people delivering hospitality and they spend more of their day present. Presence is the entire product. It’s also the line between a good venue and a best-in-class one: a co-facilitator whose success is the success of the conference itself.
Decades of IACC research tells us what resonates at every stage of the conference journey. What it has never had to answer, until now, is where to invest time we’ve just been given back. Across two nights in the Macedon Ranges we’ll put that question to the room – light on powerpoint presented sessions, heavy on the things that only happen when people are together, away from the everyday. Because whatever else changes, people will remember how human connection and interaction made them feel.
