IACC members around the world participated in the recent Green Star certification program and this week IACC announced the award achieved by the first to complete the certification. In 2015 the Green Star programme underwent major reforms, the bar was set high, to ensure that IACC’s sustainability program continued to recognise those who operate their conference venues in a sustainable way and engage suppliers who do the same.

Mark Cooper, IACC’s CEO commented “a comprehensive review of best environmental best practices was undertaken in late 2014, by a IACC volunteer group from Europe and the Americas. This group set the bar higher than other accreditations reviewed and with the mindset that this was a global standard, that all can strive to attain the highest level. Advances in sustainable practices and technologies have resulted in new tenants being added such as recognising electric car charging points in parking areas and endorsing only refillable water carriers in meeting rooms”.

Those who have achieved the 2015 Green Star award can demonstrate their excellence to clients, staff and owners by sporting the IACC Green Star logo on their marketing.

By signing the Code of Sustainability, IACC members agree to support IACC’s Environmental Policy, to adopt the tenets of the code, and to join other members in an association-wide effort to continually strive for greater sustainability.
